Under The Desk

Is this your desk? It probably is for most of us. A tangled web of cords and wires. “So what,” you may say. “No one can see under my desk.” While that is true, there are several good reasons to keep your cords in check.

First, of course, is the fire hazard. A tangled web of wires can easily be a fire hazard. It can build up heat. Or it can cause shorts. Keeping it neat and clean can help prevent fires. Second, it’s a snag hazard. It is so easy to catch your chair, shoes, or other items on loose cords. This can unplug sensitive electronics. (Are you ready to redo that spreadsheet?) Third, it is harder to keep clean. Loose cords all over the floor makes it harder to vacuum or dust under a desk.

So what can we do about it. First, use cord ties to wrap up extra wires. You can also relocate power strips to better place all the cords. Try hanging the power strip on a wall or desk. Just a little thought can give you some great ideas.

Don’t let under your desk become the Mayan Jungle!
